Where to shoot in Summerlin

• Downtown Summerlin. Open air streets, plazas and storefronts with the mountains behind them. It is privately managed, so filming needs property approval and a certificate of insurance.
• Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The most dramatic backdrop in the valley. It is federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management, and commercial filming there requires a BLM permit, which takes lead time. Plan it early or use the private desert edges nearby.
• Resort interiors. Red Rock Casino Resort and the west side resorts offer controllable interiors and pool decks. Casino floors carry strict rules on filming guests and gaming.
• Parks and trails. Summerlin's trail system and village parks give clean, green, family friendly settings for wellness and community content.
• Model homes and custom estates. Builders and brokers can open spaces that look like a magazine spread with none of the permit work.
• Your own location. For most Summerlin businesses the right set is the space customers visit. It is authentic and free.

Permits, insurance and drone rules

Summerlin is not its own city. Most of it sits inside the City of Las Vegas and parts of Summerlin South sit in unincorporated Clark County, so the permitting office depends on the exact address.

• Public property. Streets, sidewalks and city parks need a film permit from whichever jurisdiction the address falls in. We confirm which one during pre production.
• Private property. Shopping districts, resorts, HOAs and office parks approve filming themselves, almost always with a certificate of insurance.
• Red Rock Canyon. Federal land. Commercial photography and video need a BLM permit, and fees and conditions apply. Do not show up with a crew and hope.
• Drone flights. West Las Vegas has more open airspace than the Strip, but Red Rock Canyon has its own restrictions and neighborhoods are sensitive to overflights. We fly with a Part 107 pilot, check airspace and file LAANC authorization where needed. See our Las Vegas drone laws guide.
• Light and heat. The mountains put the west side into shade earlier than the rest of the valley. Plan golden hour shots about 20 to 30 minutes sooner, and avoid midday exteriors in summer.
